Footbridge Project (Murehwa, Zimbabwe)

Dupont Rotary partnered with the Rotary Club of Harare City (RI District 9210) to build a footbridge in Murehwa, Mashonaland East Province, Zimbabwe (approximately 65 kilometers from Harare) having lent its financial, technical, cultural, and international expertise to aid in the project's success.  The bridge connects local students to their school, which is located on the opposite banks of the Shayanhowe River, allowing for continued access to education during the rainy season.

ONGOING PROJECTS

Our club connects with and supports efforts and organizations which our members are passionate about. We look to be a multiplying factor and a talk shop for likeminded individuals to have a positive effect on our community and around the world.

PREVIOUS PROJECTS
The Rotary Future Vision, Global Grant (Uganda)

In November of 2012, Dupont Circle Rotarians Deborah Foti and Robert Romano, traveled to Uganda to witness and participate in the kickoff of the grant implementation.

The Rotary Club of Dupont Circle joined the Rotary Club of Annapolis and the Rotary Club of Kololo-Kampala in Uganda to work on a Rotary Foundation Global Grant in Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution in Uganda. The project focuses on creating a culture of mediation where the affected parties are dealt with fairly. This will be achieved by training mediators in four hot spot districts of Uganda. This training will help create empowered community leaders by giving them tools to identify potential areas of conflict within their communities, provide mediation to conflicting parties and train additional community members. The project will also work with youth groups to create a dialogue about peaceful conflict resolution and create income generating projects which will bring together youth of different tribal backgrounds to work together towards a common cause. This Rotary Foundation grant was funded with money raised by five U.S. and one Ugandan Rotary Club, and funds from The Rotary Foundation. Uganda has had many years of unrest, creating strong areas of division. The Ugandans being trained all welcome the opportunity to become a catalyst for creating a more peaceful society.
