Rotary has a long history of supporting exchanges and scholarships around the world. Since 1947, a total of $532 million has been awarded to 41,000 men and women. However, it is not always clear to non-Rotarians what opportunities exist. The purpose of the blog is to briefly explain the exchanges and scholarships Rotary supports and how to pursue them. Austria received around 90,000 asylum requests in 2015, the majority of whom are from Afghanistan but also Syria, Iraq and other conflict-affected countries. Reuters recently released an article about crimes rising sharply in Austria amidst this refugee and migrant emergency. These are not crimes committed by refugees and migrants but rather crimes committed against refugees and migrants, primarily by far right groups driven by xenophobia and Islamophobia.
